About Our Families

My Mother was Orphaned at age 4; Mom was a beautiful Cherokee.

Her parents were Alice McClain and Cecil Earl Fenn Carter while her grandparents Lorena Bozeman and Charles McClain raised her and she never heard from grandparents Anna Lou Stone and William Franklin Fenn.

Lorena's parents were Alice Lorena Stephens and John Thomas Bozeman of Dublin, with the Stephens' having a full blood Cherokee grandmother from South Carolina.

Parents of Charles were Elizebeth Broadway and Josiah Marion McClain - Josiah had a family in Georgia when he enlisted in the Civil War in 1861 but his injuries might have caused him to lose that memory and he never went back - His former wife filed an application to join the Indian Rolls and then filed for divorce in 1872. Elizabeth filed for a Widows Pension in 1897. Josiah's parents are buried at Indian Creek Cemetery in Georgia - and his mother was only known as Anna.

Parents of Elizabeth were Mary Stephens and Abner Broadway

My father's parents were Luella Coonfield and Frank Delbert Cochran, and grandparents were Lattie Cedonia Little and Benjamin Wallace Coonfield; Clora Jane Miller and Jacob Benjamin Cochran. Our grandfather Jacob was born in 1822 Guernsey Ohio - during a time where his family were the ONLY Cochrans found in that territory - other Cochrans rushed into Ohio in other counties by 1830 and 1840. Grandpa Jacob married first to Mariah White and had six daughters, then he and his brothers joined the California Gold Rush and later enlisted in the Civil War. By 1870 he and his family loaded the wagons and explored the Iowa Territory for a few years before he became widowed. He later married Clora Jane Miller and had moved to Kansas where he had our Frank Delbert Cochran.

Parents of Lattie were Mary Catherine Crigler and John Wright Little of Kentucky. Parents of Ben were Martha Frances Young and Benjamin Wylie Coonfield of Indiana.

Parents of Catherine were Catherine Roby and Abraham Crigler - Parents of John were Dr. Hiram Little and Catherine Wright and her mother was Catherine G. Weatherford of Virginia.

Weatherford being the name of Chief Red Eagle, since his father Charles Weatherford was from Virginia

Our Grandpa Hiram Little was a Mason and also was a surgeon in the Civil War and his son John also joined the Kentucky Infantry - He was a blacksmith and made guns and Aunt Bernice Cochran has a few pieces of black iron that he created as well as copies of his military records. Aunt Bernice is 92 now and still says that our grandpa Little refused the indian land allotment in Oklahoma.
